College Football Over? Fear Not Here Comes The Hoops!

Saturdays are over-at least for the college football fan.

There is nothing like awaking early on Saturday morning and either heading out to the stadium to cook up hot vitals, drink some cool beverages and enjoy the company of like-minded football fans or do the same events in your own backyard during road games.

Or you could be a bettor and head to a bar to watch your various college football action regardless of loyalty.

For each person from above, December can be a tough month with little football action before the bowls begin. While there is little to pacify the true college football fan, the bettor can turn his attention to other events like college basketball.

College basketball is not a heavily wagered on event during the regular season, which means its a good place to place your bets following the completion of college football. Basketball betting in general is a little more challenging to understand, but we can provide some tips to help you with the transition.

March Madness rivals the Super Bowl on betting, but college basketball is a shadow of what the NFL is in betting circles generally.

At this point in the season we are still in the non-conference portion and with so many Division-I teams as opposed to much smaller portion in college football (347 to 120) so it can make the early season a bit challenging.

Before the conference seasons begin you can get great games, such as a recent rematch of last years NCAA title game with North Carolina and Michigan State or a bad game with a top 10 team playing a tiny Division I or Division II school in a mismatch.

But these latter games may play into your hands. Look at the more prestigious schools schedule before and after the game with the little guy. If they are playing in a nationally televised game, a game with a non-conference rival or another ranked team before and/or after taking on the small school, that may be a trap game and it will allow you to place a bet on the favored team not covering the spread.

Also bet heavily on weekend games where the bulk of the games are played. With so many games being played, oddsmakers due not have as much time to devote to nearly 250 games (Friday through Sunday) that they would for a college football weekend for Division I that may feature far less games.

Be weary of early conference play because the teams see each other so often and they are built to beat each other for the most part. A 53-point blowout for a team in the non-conference schedule means little when they play a conference foe who is evenly matched. So be watchful and see who from the conference is shinning in their season, both in and out of their conference.

So while it may not have the same pageantry as a regular season football game, betting on a college basketball game can be just as fun and lucrative.

Plus you can get a jump on your friends in the March Madness poll since you will have all the information on the teams.

As always have fun and bet wisely.
