Chicago Bulls vs Atlanta Hawks

The Chicago Bulls were flying high in the early part of this week until a return home met them with a thud. A return to the road against a floundering team was met with hope, but that too did not go as plan. Suddenly the red-hot Bulls are ice-cold and face one of the rising stars in the conference, the Atlanta Hawks.

The Bulls (23-24) started their road trip 0-2 last month and for a team with a 4-12 on the road before heading out on that trip, things looked like they were going south quickly. Then a strange thing started happening, Chicago started winning games on the road.

Not only did they the final five games of their seven-game trip, it marked the first time in NBA history that a team recorded five consecutive victories against five teams with winning records.

So the Bulls were feeling good heading home with a winning record, but were lost to the Los Angeles Clippers before returning to the road, with a much different result in their next game, a 106-103 overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

The game was disappointing on many levels for the Bulls, who were facing the 76ers who have one of the poorer home records in the league at 7-16. Chicago also led by a point in the final minute of regulation only to fall in overtime.

Now the Bulls continue on their road to the place of horrors from earlier this year, Phillips Arena, where Chicago lost 118-83 on December 9. Chicago was down by only a point after the first quarter, but were outscored 65-36 the rest of the way.

Ten days later, the Bulls got their revenge at the United Center however, coming back from 14 down to beat the Hawks (31-17) 101-98 in overtime. Derrick Rose led the way with 32 points.

Atlanta Hawks has hit a rough patch, going 2-3 over their last five games, but winning their last game Wednesday at home against the Clippers 103-97. The Hawks poor stretch has cost them first place, having been overtaken once again by the Southeast Division champion Orlando Magic.
