Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Colorado Avalanche

Trying to avoid four straight losses for the first time this season, the struggling Colorado Avalanche will face a team they have had no struggles against this season, the Columbus Blue Jackets as the teams face off one final time this season on Tuesday from the Pepsi Center.

The Colorado Avalanche (30-18-6) are a greatly improved team this year. Rising from the worst team in the conference, to a strong contender for the postseason, Colorado currently resides in the sixth spot in the wide-open Western Conference playoff standings.

Part of that turn around has been the turn around against the Blue Jackets (22-26-9). Columbus earned their first playoff berth in franchise history last year, finishing in the eighth seed, but they are trying to stay out of the cellar of the conference this season.

In going to the playoffs last year, Columbus took advantage of a down Colorado team by sweeping the season series and now with the roles reversed this season, the Avalanche have the chance to return the favor with a season sweep of the teams four games this season.

The Avalanche, while currently sixth, has plenty of teams looking to come up and take their playoff spot away from them. The Detroit Red Wings are four-points off of Colorado’s pace and currently in ninth place, one spot out of the final spot.

Colorado will look to use their all-time domination over Columbus, last year not withstanding, going 23-3-1 prior to last years games and they will be seeking their 15th win in 18 tries at home against the Blue Jackets.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are a safe bet not to bottom out past the Edmonton Oilers for last place in the conference, however they have not shown much this season to be able to contend for another playoff spot. They have alternated wins and losses in their last seven contests, including a 3-2 home overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Columbus has 53 points, nine points out of the final playoff spot with five teams in front of them for that spot.
