Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers

Two teams desperate for wins so that they do not get buried in their oh so competitive divisions meet in the House That Jerry Built in Arlington as the Cowboys look for a better effort in their billion dollar new home.

The Dallas Cowboys (1-1) figured they had a solid start to their season when they throttled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in Week 1, but now the Buccaneers look awful and the Cowboys were unable to corral all the emotion about opening the new Cowboys Stadium in order to get a win over their rivals from New York last Sunday night, losing 33-31 as the game ended on a Lawrence Tynes field goal to lift the Giants to the important victory before over 105,000 largely disappointed fans.

The Carolina Panthers (0-2) just have been awful in their first two games, losing their first game by 28 points at home against Philadelphia and needing to rally to get their game in Atlanta close before the final whistle, losing 28-20 last week.

Carolina can not afford any more losses in their competitive division that has the Saints starting out 3-0 and the Falcons looking strong, despite a tough road loss to the Patriots on Sunday, and starting 2-1.

A loss would give the Carolina Panthers their worst start in 11 years when they lost their first seven games and finished the 1998 season 1-15.

Many fingers have been pointed to Jake Delhomme for the slow start just like he was blamed when Carolina’s solid 12-4 2008 season that ended largely because of the veterans mistakes in the playoff game against Arizona.

He picked up where he left off in the Panthers first game by allowing four interceptions and losing a fumble in the 38-10 loss, but he seemed to get the message and despite the calls still being out for his head, Delhomme threw for 308 yards and a touchdown in the loss in Atlanta, though his one interception of the game was costly as Carolina was trying to get back into the game.

Tony Romo has also been taking a lot of heat in Dallas. His three interceptions a week ago resulted in three Giant touchdowns. He finished with just 127 yards on the evening with a passer rating of 29.6, both easily career lows as a starter.

Dallas has won seven straight in the series, but those are just regular season games. The Panthers defeated the Cowboys 29-10 in a divisional round win in Carolina following the 2003 season, on the way to the team’s only Super Bowl appearance.

The Panthers have not won a game in the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys since a 23-13 Carolina road win in December 1997.
