Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Game 6: Lakers at Nuggets (LA leads series 3-2)
Denver Nuggets coach George Karl stated that he believed that winning Game 5 would be easy than winning Game 7 as both games are played in Los Angeles. The Nuggets failed to capture Game 5, but that does not mean they are folding up their tent and moving on.
Denver has shown a lot of resilience in this years postseason. No one really expected them to get this far. Surely the playoff savvy San Antonio Spurs would get here over the Nuggets, but here they are.
Still the Nuggets know they have a tough task ahead of them. First they must win Friday night in the Pepsi Center to continue their series and then capture the seventh game back in the Staples Center on Sunday.
The thing is, the Los Angeles Lakers have not lost back-to-back games since March.
Los Angeles showed some backbone that they seemed to have been lacking through the first four games of the series when they beat Denver 103-94 on Wednesday.
For the first time in the series, the Lakers counterpunched and ignored other physical play from Denver, which has resulted in 11 technical fouls in the series.
The problem for Karl is should he reign his players in or let them play their game.
Karl is seemingly choosing the latter, at least for Game 6 on their home-court.
Over on the other bench, it appeared that Lakers’ coach Phil Jackson got his money’s worth. Fined $50,000 for criticizing officals for not calling certain fouls after Game 4, his Lakers went to the line 16 times in the fourth quarter. Those free throws were part of a 23-5 run that made a nail-biting game turn into an easier win.
