Florida Gators vs. Florida State Seminoles

With three National Titles in four years on the horizon, the Florida Gators have not paid much attention to their rivalry game with the Florida State Seminoles this Saturday in Gainesville.

That is not to say that they are not taking the Florida State Seminoles (6-5) seriously, it is just that they have an ultimate goal in mind and with the way the games have gone in the series and the season that Florida State has had, the Gators (11-0) are a confident bunch in Senior Day at Florida Field, a swan song for Tim Tebow and a Gators’ graduating class that has a chance to win three championships in their run.

Florida comes in with the nation’s longest winning streak, at 21 games. They have won 10 straight games at home and have beaten eight straight non-conference opponents. They have also won five straight games in the battle for Florida bragging rights in a series that used to be quite competitive from year to year.

In 2004, the Florida Gators won in Tallahassee for the first time since 1986 and then made it look easy in each of the games since then, winning by an average of 24.3 points, including the last two games which Florida has won by a combined score of 91-13. Both of those wins were the most lopsided score since the early 1970’s and Florida State is still smarting from the 45-15 decimation they received at home last year.

Everyone knows what Florida needs to do to get where they are going, but it could be somewhat surprising considering all that has happened in Tallahassee this year that the Florida State Seminoles become bowl eligible with a 29-26 victory over the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.

Florida comes off basically a walk-through with a 62-3 win over Florida International last week after some close calls in their SEC season. They already have a date set up next week to face Alabama for the SEC title for the second straight season and the winner is almost certain to go to the BCS title game.
