Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers have used two home series against the Los Angeles Angels to their benefit. The Rangers swept the Angels from May 15-17 in Arlington when Texas was dominating and leading the division. Last week the Rangers were struggling but were still able to shake off a series opening loss and a six-run collapse in the series finale to take the second series over Los Angeles this season.
Beginning Monday, it will be the Angels (45-35) turn to get their home fans behind them as the teams tied for the AL West division lead meet up for the second straight week.
The Texas Rangers (43-35) come in red-hot after winning the last two of the Angels series last week and sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays in Arlington over the weekend. They will seek their sixth win in a row and sixth win in seven tries against Los Angeles.
Josh Hamilton will be back with Texas on Monday after spending multiple stints on the disabled list and ineffective play in between. That did not stop All-Star voters from putting Hamilton back in the game, perhaps remembered the great comeback story and the phenomenal Home Run Derby from last year.
Kevin Millwood (8-5, 2.80) will get the start for Texas on Monday after picking up a no-decision in his last start, also against Los Angeles, when he allowed four runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings of work in last Wednesday’s 9-7 win. Millwood will make his third start of the year against the Los Angeles Angels. He beat them on May 15 when he allowed two runs on nine hits of a 10-8 win and is 4-1 with a 1.30 ERA against them in his previous five starts.
Facing him will be Jered Weaver (8-3, 3.10), who has not fared as well against Texas, including a no-decision as well on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
