Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies have been considered the hottest team in baseball recently, but one team they just can not seem to beat are the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The majors best Dodgers (49-28) put a stop to the Rockies (40-36) most recent winning streak when they topped them 4-2 at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday via a 13th inning two-run walk-off homerun by Andre Ethier.

The loss snapped Colorado’s three-game winning streak and was just their fourth loss in the past 24 games. Still the Colorado Rockies need to find ways to top the Dodgers if they want to have any shot at catching them in the NL West and/or competing for the Wild Card in the National League.

The Colorado Rockies have now dropped nine of their 10 games against Los Angeles this season.

The teams prepare for the second game of the series as each team goes for a milestone.

The Los Angeles Dodgers can become the first team to 50 victories this season with a victory while the Rockies can set a franchise record for wins in one month with 21. When they made their unlikely run to the 2007 playoffs, they won 20 games in the month of September.

Chad Billingsley (9-3, 3.10) will head to the mound to help Los Angeles to half-way to the century mark. With a victory, Billingsley would be among the league leaders in wins with 10, but he has had two opportunities to get there, but has failed. His most recent attempt was felled by the Chicago White Sox when he allowed a season-high five runs over six innings. The game went into extra innings for a 6-5 Los Angeles loss so Billingsley did not factor into the decision.

Jason Marquis (9-5, 4.22) will go to for Colorado as they attempt to get yet another winning streak going, also looking for his 10th win. Marquis looks to bounce back from a tough start when he allowed eight runs over 3 1/3 innings in an 11-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.

It was the shortest outing of Marquis season and he is 0-5 when he allows four or more runs.
