Louisville Cardinals vs Connecticut Huskies

louisville-vs-connecticut

The Big East season has not been going the way neither team has anticipated and the woes will continue for one when the disappointing Louisville Cardinals host the equally disappointing Connecticut Huskies Monday night.

Both teams enter the night’s action after tough losses over the weekend have made their substandard conference records even less presentable. The Cardinals (13-8, 4-4) fell to .500 in the Big East with a three-point loss at West Virginia on Saturday and the Huskies (13-8, 3-5) fell even further below the break-even mark with a home loss to Marquette 70-68, giving them two straight losses that has cost them their 19th ranking.

Each team needs to get their acts in gear if they want to go to the tournament. In the very deep, both competitive and team-wise, only a certain number of teams will head to the field of 65 from at-large bids and neither Connecticut nor Louisville looks like teams that will be able to compete with the elites in the conference for a regular season title or a conference tournament championship.

For the Louisville Cardinals, their problems have been against ranked foes. Though they will not have that to worry about on Monday, they have whiffed in four attempts against Top 25 teams while the Huskies have been unable to win on the road, also 0-4 there this season.

Connecticut is also playing without its coach Jim Calhoun who is on medical leave for an undetermined amount of time and the team has gone 2-2 without him.

Acting coach George Blaney nearly led the team back from a double-digit deficit but fell just short in the loss to the Golden Eagles on Saturday despite 18 points from leading scorer Jarome Dyson and 15 from Kemba Walker.

The opposite was true for Louisville in their loss to the ninth-ranked Mountaineers. They led by double-figures and were unable to contain their rally, falling fourth time in their last five games, though their last three losses in that stretch have been by a combined 11 points.

The Huskies have won two straight and four of the last six meetings with the Cardinals.
