LSU Tigers vs. Arkansas Razorbacks
Les Miles had his Bill Belichick week this past week and he and his LSU Tigers will try to go out on a high note when the seniors take their final bow at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The Tigers (8-3, 4-3) fell to 17th in the polls, after being as high as number four before losing at home to the Florida Gators on October 10. Since then, they have not fared well and have seen their BCS title game hopes, their BCS bowl berth and conference title hopes whittle away with each loss.
It did not get much worse for LSU, even with a surprisingly close victory against Louisiana Tech, last week. They rallied from a late deficit with a shot to win the game in Mississippi, but poor clock management led to the LSU Tigers running out of time before they could spike it after completing a pass to the Ole’ Miss five yard line.
This led to Miles being under fire all week with even some calling for his head following two disappointing season after their National Championship season of 2007.
LSU figures to have their hands full with a surging Arkansas Razorbacks (7-4, 3-4) team. They have won their last four straight behind the conference leading passer, Ryan Mallett.
The sophomore threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns in Arkansas most recent win, 32-21 over Mississippi State on Saturday. Mallett has thrown for over 700 yards and 10 touchdown passes over his last two games.
It is just too bad for Arkansas that Malletts skills can not transfer to defense, where the Razorbacks are allowing 408.7 yards per game, easily the worst mark in the SEC.
This may perk us the spirits of Jordon Jefferson, who has had a nasty stretch of games including completing just 19 of his 37 passes for 250 yards and was held to negative yardage on the ground.
LSU has had little luck against Arkansas recently, dropping the last two games by a total of three points, following a one-point loss in Arkansas last year after the Tigers led by as many as 16 points.
The Razorbacks last visit to Death Valley was memorable when Arkansas beat LSU 50-48 in triple overtime. Despite the modest two-game winning streak for Arkansas, LSU still easily holds the lead in the all-time series 33-19-2.
