New York Rangers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Two surprising teams met up in New York on Monday night as the Columbus Blue Jackets travel to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Rangers.
The teams are surprising because the Blue Jackets (12-6-3) are near the top of the Central Division and the Rangers (11-10-1) have just been awful since getting off to a good start this season.
The Rangers are looking to stop a three game home losing streak and they have lost two straight and four of five both on the road and at home. New York’s latest loss was to the Florida Panthers 3-2.
The Rangers have been unable to score much which is a reason for their skid. They have scored just 18 goals over their past 10 games, of which seven they have lost.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are making a rare appearance in New York. They have not played in Madison Square Garden since a 3-2 win in 2007.
Columbus currently trails the first-place Chicago Blackhawks by three points and have won five of their past seven despite dropping their most recent game, 4-3, to the Nashville Predators in a shootout, despite Steve Mason’s heroics in goal, where he stopped a season-high 45 pucks, though he was 0-for-2 in the shootout.
Mason will likely take a back seat to Mathieu Garon on Monday as Mason has started the first two games on their road trip. Garon is 2-0 with a 1.45 goals-against average lifetime against New York.
Henrick Lundqvist, who has struggled mightily during the New York Rangers cool streak will likely get the nod on Monday and he is sporting a 9-8-1 record with a 2.57 GAA in 19 games played this season.
The Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak to the Blue Jackets with a 3-1 win in Ohio last year.
