San Antonio Spurs vs. Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks may be the forgotten franchise in basketball. The team has not done much since the days of Lew Alcindor and have been largely ignored for a number of decades because of their inability to put a competitive team on the court.
So far this season people are taking notice of Milwaukee’s basketball team.
Surprisingly leading the division that is home to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Milwaukee Bucks (8-3) look to continue their best start since 2001 and win their eighth game in nine tries when they travel south to face the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.
Amazingly, Milwaukee is winning without a couple of key players, guard Michael Redd and center Andrew Bogut. Redd has missed the last nine games due to a left knee injury, but is due back to the lineup soon, although not for Monday while Bogut is more serious, and will miss up to a month with a left leg strain suffered in a 99-85 victory over the New Jersey Nets Wednesday.
To keep the team motoring without some veterans, the team has looked to Brandon Jennings and the rookie has not disappointed. He notched 26 points in a 103-98 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday night, which is actually below his average in recent games, 31.0 points over his last six games.
Their opponents on Monday are no strangers to injuries. The San Antonio Spurs (5-6) are off to an uncharacteristic start largely because of many stars being dinged up. The big three of Tim Duncan, Many Ginobili and Tony Parker have all missed games this year for the Spurs, who are off to their weakest start since before their championship era began in 1999, in the 1996-97 season.
Ginobili looks like the only one of the three that will be out for Monday’s game after Parker and Duncan both played in the teams last game, a 106-84 win over the Washington Wizards that put an end to their three-game skid.
Milwaukee swept the season series last year although San Antonio Spurs has one of their players from last year now on their team, Richard Jefferson.
