St. Louis Blues vs Boston Bruins

With each team looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season, the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues hope a winning streak will help them begin to put some mustard in their otherwise non-descript season.

The Bruins (10-8-4) ran off to the Eastern Conference’s best record but were humbled in the second round of the playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes. This season they have not looked like the powerhouse that rolled through the Eastern Conference a season ago, but are still looking to win the first three of their four-game road trip when they face the Blues (8-8-4) on Monday night.

The Bruins defeated the Buffalo Sabres in their building on Friday, 2-1 in overtime and finished off the Thrashers in a shootout in Atlanta the night before.

St. Louis  Blues used two goals from David Perron to power their way past the New York Islanders 4-1 on Saturday for their second straight victory after beating Phoenix 3-2 in overtime the night before. It marked the first time that the Blues have won two games in a row since they start the season off with two wins in two days over the Detroit Red Wings in Sweden.

Since then the Blues have sputtered, including losing five straight from October 29-November 8.

Though the Blues have not fared well in recent seasons, making the playoffs last year for the first time in four seasons—losing to Vancouver in a four-game sweep, they have dominated the Bruins in recent years, though the two teams from separate conferences rarely meet.

Boston has lost eight of their last nine matchups since February 24, 2001, with six of the eight Bruins’ losses coming in overtime or a shootout, although Boston broke through win a win in St. Louis last year and the Blues returned the favor in Boston.

The Blues are looking for a win to give them a split of their six-game homestand. Six of their next eight games will be played on the road while the Bruins have one more road game before heading home for three straight and five of the next six.
