Texas Longhorns vs Kansas Jayhawks

The Texas Longhorns were never able to recover from a stumble at the top of the rankings and have lost often since their first loss of the season. The Kansas Jayhawks, on the other hand, have had a much easier road after their upset at number one, so much so they have recaptured the honor. The two Big 12 teams meet up in Austin on Monday night.

The Longhorns (19-4, 5-3) are still ranked at ninth, but that ranking might be a bit too generous, after going 2-4 since they were ranked number one for the first time in school history.

They will have a chance to stop skidding down the ranks by defeated a number one team for the first time in school history when they play the top-ranked Jayhawks (22-1, 8-0) Monday night, trying to avoid losing two straight games after falling in Oklahoma, 81-70 on Saturday.

Texas dug themselves into too deep of a hole and found themselves down by 19, but a rally fell short. Avery Bradley notched 21 points and Damion Jones added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Longhorns in a losing effort.

Texas is 0-6 against the number one team in the country, but they have a trend in the opposite direction by winning six straight home games against top five teams.

Kansas won eight straight games following their lone loss of the year to Tennessee early last month. The Kansas Jayhawks had to battle back from a slight deficit against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, but cruised to an easy victory with a 16-1 run in the second half to win 75-64.

Marcus Morris had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Sherron Collins also contributed 17 points in the victory.

Collins is averaging 15.6 points per game and has scored 10.4 points per game in five games against Texas, with Kansas winning four of those games, including the last contest, 83-73 at home on March 7.
