Which sponsor will be the next to drop Tiger Woods? Bet on it!
San Jose, Costa Rica, December 17th, 2009 – Accenture, the consulting company which built a marketing campaign around Tiger Woods, announced recently it would end a six-year relationship with the golfer. Proctor & Gamble, the maker of the Gillette brand, has also shown signs of a potential contract cancellation.
Tiger Woods is rumored to make in excess of $100 million dollars yearly from lucrative sponsorships. His name and image are branded on some of the biggest products including Pepsi, Tag Heuer and Nike.
Known for offering some of the best sports odds and diverse entertainment prop bets found online, playblackjack.com has released odds which of these lucrative sponsorship deals will be the next to drop off.
Dave Johnson, head bookmaker at playblackjack.com, had the following to say regarding the current odds on this prop bet: “Tiger Woods has done considerable damage to his image and brand. Sponsors who previously wanted to brand their products with this image are now trying to distance themselves.
Accenture was the first to make a clean break from the golfer. Proctor & Gamble is starting to distance themselves and “phasing-out” advertising. However, they are still listed on our odds because they have not yet terminated the contract. The betting odds we created are based on contract termination.
With that in mind I expect to see a lot of money bet on both Proctor & Gamble as well as AT&T. The more sports-related sponsors I feel will stick it out longer in the hopes that Woods gets back on the course. Nike, Golf Digest etc are more tied to the Tiger Woods athlete and his performance on the Golf course. Other sponsors who don’t have definitive ties to Golf may be the first to cancel in the upcoming months. The odds on these sponsors will be kept low and adjusted as money is bet.”
Can Tiger repair his image before he loses more sponsors? Only time will tell.
