Single Deck 6-5 Blackjack
The house is always trying to improve their edge over their patrons. It’s their business after all, that’s how they make money. It’s no secret that the game of blackjack has a low house edge – that’s its appeal – but Vegas casinos are trying to improve their edge through a rip-off version of blackjack. The casinos are pulling the old “mark it up to mark it down” scam on patrons with these new 6-5 payout blackjack games.
They now offer single-deck blackjack games that only pay out 6-5, instead of 3-2, for a blackjack. Your tourist-type player will see “single-deck blackjack” and think that it’s a good game. But because of the change on the blackjack payout, you will lose eight times faster on this table than in a regular game. That’s considerable, and any gamer in the know won’t get within ten feet of these games.
It clearly takes advantage of the novice tourist, and labels anyone playing at the tables as a sucker in my opinion. The house created this game because they believe a percentage of their blackjack revenues are lost to advantage players, and this is a way to recover them. But I guess that’s what Las Vegas has always done; made the sucker pay for it.
These rip-off games never last. Word travels fast when everyone is losing, and people don’t go back to a game at which they lost. Then the house will just change the signs when the single-deck sucker list runs out.
